I’m Kirsty Brien, a Yorkshire-based artist creating contemporary paintings that explore place, personality and the stories held within everyday life.

My practice is centred around two distinct but connected bodies of work. My pigeon paintings capture the character and quiet humour of these familiar urban figures, elevating an everyday subject through expressive mark-making, colour and personality. Alongside these, my map-inspired works reinterpret the landscapes and places of Yorkshire, transforming recognisable maps into layered, abstract compositions that celebrate a sense of place and belonging.

Across both collections, I’m interested in taking something familiar and presenting it from a new perspective. My work is colourful, considered and often playful, with each piece designed to hold its own story while leaving space for the viewer to create their own connection with it.

Alongside my collections, I also accept limited commissions, creating bespoke artwork inspired by meaningful places, memories and personal stories.
