A Long Road Ahead is a reflection on the beginning of my journey into an art career and the uncertainty that came with taking those first steps.

The pigeon is a recurring, quirky reminder of my dad, bringing a sense of familiarity and comfort to the painting. Here, it becomes a quiet companion as I stand at the beginning of my artistic journey, looking out towards the landscape ahead.

The winding road represents my journey into art: long, unpredictable and full of turns that I cannot yet see. From where the pigeon and I are standing, the road disappears into the distance, creating a feeling of both excitement and uncertainty. The vast landscape emphasises how small the beginning of a career can feel when there is such a huge amount still to learn, experience and achieve.

There is also a sense of pause in the painting. The pigeon is standing at the edge of the path, looking out into the distance, reflecting how I felt at the beginning of my own journey: hopeful and excited, but also very aware of how far I still have to go.

Ultimately, the painting is about beginnings. It is about standing at the start of something that matters, looking towards an unknown future, and finding the courage to take the next step. With my dad represented by the pigeon beside me, the journey feels a little less daunting—and perhaps a little more humorous too.
